The project
Compendiums are one of our favorite projects. Each year’s Better Government Competition has a theme, and our job is to give it a look that carries from the cover through every entry: graphics that reflect the theme and the ideas inside it, always on-brand, never the same twice. The year on aging in America stayed simple and clean with a subdued palette; the year on the justice system went darker and edgier. Underneath, the structure holds steady — a titled opener with the author and organization, a two-column layout that separates the problem from the solution, and award labels in the same place throughout — so dozens of separate submissions read as one volume.
